There is nothing like having the privilege of owning a classic antique motorcycle, especially if it happens to be an iconic Harley-Davidson "74".  Charlie and Karen Renny have owned the 1958 FLH since 1981, having acquired it through trade for a late 1970's mid-sized Honda motorcycle.  The owner had injured his hip and could no longer "kick start" the Harley.  The Honda was a lighter motorcycle and came equipped with an electric starter.  Although the Harley was not in "original" condition and had been repainted, it was in the correct configuration and assembled with "factory" parts.  It was in operating condition and would be ridden on occasion for enjoyment and to keep it exercised.  In the late 1980's, the motorcycle was prepped for and placed into storage.  They relocated to the Traverse City area in late 2000 and brought this "Panhead" along with them.  It was dusty and dirty, hadn't been fired in well over ten years, and had two flat tires.  The motorcycle sat for another couple plus years before they decided to replace the tires so the machine could be prepped and ridden again.  Not so fast though.  Removal of the rear wheel assembly revealed a badly leaking hydraulic brake cylinder and contaminated brake linings.  The rear chain sprocket was worn and loose on the rear brake drum.  Thus began what would eventually become a five year odyssey of completely disassembling, reconditioning, and reassembling the motorcycle to factory specifications.  Completed in late 2010, they hope to have the motorcycle judged at an AMCA National Meet sometime in 2011.
